Location of the Institute

University of Stuttgart

You find the Köhn Group and the Rauhut Group on the eighth floor, and the Kästner Group on the first floor.

How to get to the campus

By plane

The closest Airport is Stuttgart Airport. If your flight is going to Frankfurt, you can take a train to Stuttgart Central Station.

From Stuttgart airport you can take the S-Bahn (subway) either with the
S2 direction "Schorndorf" or the
S3 direction "Backnang".
Leave the S-Bahn at the station "Universität" and use the exit "Universitätszentrum". Pfaffenwaldring 55 is right ahead of you.

Both lines will go directly to this station (you do not have to change). You need to buy a ticket for "2 Zonen" (2 zones, approx. 2,90 EUR). Vending machines can be found on the platform (no tickets available on the train!).

Alternatively, you can take a taxi to the institute. They will charge you approx. 30 Euro.

By train

Upon arrival at Stuttgart Central Station, you can take the S-Bahn (subway). The main station is connected to the station "Universität" through the lines
S1 direction "Herrenberg"
S2 direction "Fliderstadt"
S3 direction "Flughafen/Messe"

Occasionally, the direction of these trains may be called "Vaihingen" instead.

Leave the S-Bahn at the station "Universität" and use the exit "Universitätszentrum". Pfaffenwaldring 55 is right ahead of you.

Please note:

We do not recommend you to take a taxi as it will take more time and is expensive.

As the S-Bahn is run by the Deutsche Bahn, your train ticket is usually valid for the ride from the main station to the university. In case of doubt, please refer to the "InfoPoint" in the center of the main station hall.

By car

Coming either direction on the highway A8, enter the highway A831 at the motorway junction "Stuttgart" (direction "Stuttgart/S-Vaihingen"). After two kilometers the A831 is called B14 instead, keep on the road and follow the signs "Stuttgart-Zentrum/Universität". Beware of the speed limit (fixed radar controls!). Directly after a short tunnel, leave the B14 at the exit "Universität". Turn left at the traffic lights into "Universitätsstraße".

Parking is an issue at the university. If you have booked a room at campus.guest (see below), you can use their parking lot (or the garage, please ask at the reception). Public parking lots are available at the "Keltenschanze" (approx. opposite to Pfaffenwaldring 19) or in the "Allmandring" (opposite of Allmandring 6).

How to find us on the campus

The Institute of Theoretical Chemistry is located in the Chemistry building (Pfaffenwaldring 55) directly in the center of the campus next to the S-Bahn (subway). The building is built to the library building (Universitätsbibliothek).
A google maps link is here.

If you are heading to the groups of A. Köhn, G. Rauhut, H.-J. Werner, or H. Stoll: take the blue elevator in the foyer of the Chemistry building (Pfaffenwaldring 55) to the 8th floor. Behind the blue elevator you will find the Institute.

If you are heading to the group of J. Kästner: take the green elevator in the foyer of the Chemistry building to the first floor (meaning: one above the ground floor). Turn right when exiting the elevator and walk along the corridor at the back of the elevator. At the end of this corridor, turn left and proceed for another 10 meters or so. Our offices are to the right side.
